Buying anything these days is annoying because internet is supposed to allow you to get the best price. I prefer the good old Russian system of my youth where there was no competition and a unique price. If you were not happy: blam at the Goulag. LL and I had to book an hotel in San Francisco today as we will be vacationing there starting Wednesday. I tried to keep morale high among my troops but I knew it was going to be tough as it is mandatory to use Priceline, Orbitz, Travelocity and other giant internt-based vacation malls. I settled on Priceline. Which price should we bid for ? how can we make sure we get the best deal ? If priceline does not turn you down (which happen to us for the Marriott at $125/night), how can you be sure you have the best available deal ? It leaves this bitter taste in your mouth that perhaps you actually overpaid your stay by trying to beat the system.
I flipped through MW today and enjoyed the fact that this week’s coverboy states that he “does not rule out a career in politics”. Can someone inform him that life ruled it out for him. Isn’t the owner from “Go Mama Go” a little bit wacko too or am I insensitive to foreign culture ? The start of this week-end was full of little social surprises. Kevin A., who once was such a decent HRC employee, cut his hair in a Mohawk and TJ L. was seen today wearing a white tank top with a white Spanish casquette. I mean come on people I know it is hot outside but can we say sensible? Everybody that has a normal hairdo is at Rehoboth this WE: Jay N., Drew W are there…… John J. and Ruben G. (is it me or wasn’t he supposed to have moved to Ohio by now ?) spending the week-end at Chuck W.’s house in Rehoboth. So DC being empty, Scott G. and Kaï even envisioned taking Kevin D. to the Hirshhorn Gallery this afternoon. That’d have been a surprise for the Smithsonian ! The G. tricked us in going to Remington’s tonight. LL who only has polos in my closet will definitely fits in.

Tristan has said he’s too tired to finish the blog for the day, so he’s asked me to finish. Before going to Remington’s tonight, we’re going to watch Bullets Over Broadway, which is a slight change, to say the least, from the uplifting film from two nights ago – Hotel Rwanda. (this part was auto-censored).
In other news, this brief entry in the blog is also a cry out for help – since coming to Dupont Circle, I’ve been living in what could be characterized as a fascist regime. I have no right to speak, and more often than not, am spoken for without consultation. I’m told when I can sleep and when I can wake, what I can drink and in what quantities, and finally, am being forced into surgery because, as Tristan says, I’ve become “too fat.” Even worse, I’m instructed to smile lovingly when we’re walking down 17th street to fool everyone we pass (btw, Tristan assumes all of them are reading the blog: please stop paying attention and feeding this beast - that'll get him in trouble).
oi, you didn't even give me a heads up that you'd be in town this week...it would be nice to see you guys, I live right near the Marriot...at least indulge me with your company for a moment or two...
