Everybody is self-improving these days. Frenchbenj is preparing to get a master degree (so unfrench of him) which will boost his already honorable career. Fagat is giving himself an international edge by learning new tricks in Madrid with other “super academic overachievers”. LL has been selling himself to firms so well that he got to rest his head on an engraved pillow last night and brag about it. Even Kevin D. seems to be practicing more often lately and Olliver-le-chat has ordered business cards. Everybody I know is striving on the notion that better tomorrows await them and that they haven’t reached their complete potential yet.
It might be true but you guys stress the f***ck out of me. The idea that all mankind is bettering itself right now makes me panic. The only skill I ever hope to acquire in the next twenty years is a better driving. To paraphrase Saki, I am one of those people who will only be improved by death. If everybody is sharpening their skills and discovering their untapped talents while I am just trying to maintain my limited skills at their current level than your efforts are automatically worsening me little by little. Self-improvement creates unnecessary anxiety among your underachiever friends particularly those who already were unsatisfied by their current situation.
Lou: I think you should take it as a sign that you've reached such heights your mostly unimprovable.
