I finished watching “C.R.A.Z.Y” which is an amazing movie and the most moving coming out story I ever watched (retrospectively Brokeback Mountain feels a little pale, over the top and fluffy in comparison). The painful emotions linked to coming-out are really well described and it hit home. In Quebec it recorded 1 million entries for a population of 7,5 million. As it did not seem to have come out yet in the US (the movie is at least one year old) I would be very glad to lend you the DVD so you too can be enlightened. The movie is extremely well done, I am just a little sad that all coming out stories include an overbearing mother (isn't it an urban legend ???). Among the best scenes is Marc-André Grondin (the "Canadian Gael García Bernal"…some sexy motherf*cker, 145 pounds, 5’11 and 22 years old if you’d like to know) magistral interpretation of “Space Oddity”. Btw I asked LL who major Tom is ? is it the same major Tom than Peter Schilling’s ? and the answer is yes…Major Tom (coming Home) is the musical sequel to “Space Oddity”…it’s just amazing how much Wikipedia can tell you. Actually, the whole movie soundtrack ($600,000 CDN) is great (including “Sympathy for the devil” in Church). I am not the biggest fan of French Canadians but I have to say they produce pretty good movies (I also very recently watched “les Invasion Barbares”)…too bad they have such strange idiomatic expressions such as their way of saying “fif” for queer (instead of the elegant French "pédé"). I honestly had to read the English subtitles as I barely understand their ridiculous language.
In other news, I am delighted to announce that Fishwatch has agreed to keep Fagat alive for the next three months. And I’ll blog about my Apex fiasco tomorrow.
